Our Site
Millbank Gardens Primary Academy is located on tree-lined Erasmus Street in the heart of Westminster. Although we are just a stone’s throw away from the Houses of Parliament and Tate Britain, we are lucky that our school is on a quiet residential street with little traffic and with several nearby playgrounds! Many children travel from further afield to attend our school, and it is only a short walk to several bus stops and tube stations.
Our school is made up of several buildings, many of which date back to the Victorian era. In those days, the school accommodated over eight hundred children! We have far fewer children today, and we have taken advantage of the extra space by setting up a dedicated music room, a science laboratory and an art room. We also have a beautiful, airy library at the very top of the school, and a computer suite with a computer for every child in each class.
Our classrooms were refurbished during the summer holidays of 2024 to make sure they provided the best possible climate for learning. As well as our dining hall, we have a separate hall for indoor sports and assemblies, ensuring that PE lessons are not disrupted by poor weather. We are also lucky to have a good number of smaller rooms where our expert team can provide more personalised support to individuals and small groups.
We have a very large main playground, where children have plenty of space to run around and play with friends! Our School Council has been working with a charity called Trees for Cities to create more areas for wildlife and for growing plants, and we are looking forward to work starting on this project later in 2024. This is part of a larger planned refurbishment of this space.
Our youngest children’s learning is based in our Early Years block, which has its own entrance, separate from the entrance used by older children, helping to ensure a calm start to the day. Our Nursery and Reception classes benefit from spacious classrooms, where our teachers set up a variety of engaging activities. The block also has its own hall, used for lunchtimes and sports, as well as a number of smaller ‘break-out’ rooms. Both Nursery and Reception classes have their own playgrounds, which were entirely renovated during the summer of 2024; they provide the ideal environment for children to develop their confidence and creativity while having fun!
